From the President
![]() | Wayne State University is a treasure within the city of Detroit and one of its gems is the University Art Collection. The art displayed in our libraries, schools and colleges, administrative buildings and across our beautiful urban campus contributes to an academic, social and cultural environment in which creativity and imagination thrive. The abundance and diversity of the University Art Collection is publicly represented by outdoor sculptures such as the engaging Invisible Doors, by The Heidelberg Project's creator Tyree Guyton, or Giacomo Manzu's classically serene Nymph and Faun in the McGregor Sculpture Court. I encourage you to take an ArtWalk tour and learn more about the extraordinary public sculptures at Wayne State while you enjoy a retreat in the heart of the city. |
More wonderful art from the collection is on view at the David Adamany Undergraduate Library, where noted African American artist Jacob Lawrence's series The Legend of John Brown is installed, as are important selections from Detroit's Cass Corridor artists of the 1960s and '70s.
The University Art Collection has been supported largely through private gifts. We are extremely grateful to the many benefactors who have demonstrated their understanding of the arts' ability to enrich our lives and challenge the way we think about the world, others and ourselves.
The Wayne State University Art Collection reflects the energy and vitality of this great institution and reminds us every day of the breadth and power of human expression.
Sincerely,
Jay Noren
Past-President, Wayne State University
