Grace Serra has been the Art Collection Curator for Wayne State University since 2017. Previously she has worked in the field of Public Arts for over thirty years, coordinating major art installations in the Detroit People Mover, Detroit Receiving, and Children’s Hospitals.
Formerly a leader in the field of Arts in Healthcare, Serra served on the Steering Committee for the Arts in Health Symposium at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 2016 and 2017, and chaired the International Arts in Health Conference Planning Committee in 2014 and was a featured speaker at the Alliance in Arts in Health Conference (Houston, TX) the Society for Arts in Health Conference in San Francisco, CA (2011) and Detroit, Michigan (2012).
In 2011, Serra was Co-principal (along with Terry Albrecht PhD and Steve Peters PhD) on the Interdisciplinary Research Study (Media, medicine, art & theatre), supported by Wayne State University’s research in the arts grant; and in 2022, was Principal Investigator for the interdisciplinary collaboration research grant, funded by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC); published in August 2023, Feen-Calligan, H., Serra, G., Farrell, K., Mendez, J., McQuillen, E., Murphy, C., and Amponsah, D., Journal of the American Art Therapy Association.
Grace Serra has served on faculty at Henry Ford College, Macomb College, Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University teaching visual arts, art history and arts administration courses. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from Wayne State University, Master of Arts (Painting) from Dominican University, in Florence, Italy, and Master of Arts (Arts Administration) from Eastern Michigan University.
