Acting Like an Animal

June 27, 2010

Alan Turner addresses painting with a sort of deadpan tone, presenting a humorous figure in a banal setting. Acting Like an Animal, the title of the work, appears at the bottom of the canvas in very stern letters. But Turner differs from many of his contemporaries using text within collage and painting by adding a great amount of attention and care to the painting of his figure, thereby showing more of an interest in formal aesthetic concerns.
