Untitled - from Ten in Black and White portfolio
August 17, 2014
This untitled print by artist Aris Koutroulis is an example of the clich?-verre process. Clich?-verre is a French word which translates as ?multiple glass.? It is the process of mark making on a transparent surface which is then transferred to sensitized paper via exposure to light. The process results in line work which resembles engraving however clich?-verre allows for a full range of tones.
Aris Koutroulis (1938-2013) was both an artist and educator with strong ties to Michigan. He earned his MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art before teaching as an Assistant Professor of Lithography at Wayne State University and later as a Professor and Chair of the Arts Department at the Center for Creative Studies.
